Dear Prospective Osher Faculty,
At the University of Kansas Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, we offer faculty the opportunity to teach adult learners seeking life-enriching experiences. These unique students truly appreciate their courses and the expertise of the faculty who teach them. The Osher Institute partners with retirement communities, museums, art organizations, historical societies, libraries and private foundations to provide engaging venues for Osher members. Their joy of learning makes your love of teaching a mutually fulfilling experience. No grades, no credit-just the pleasure of sharing your knowledge and experience with those who greatly appreciate that gift. Course scheduling varies by topic, availability of the instructor, and the needs of our students. Typically, courses are offered afternoons and evenings for two hours, once a week for three weeks.
Faculty can be remunerated in a variety of ways for participating in OLLI at KU. Some choose to receive an honorarium, others choose other forms of compensation such as gift memberships, and many generously contribute their honorarium towards scholarships for senior citizens who might otherwise not be able to afford to be Osher members. I invite you to join the Osher family and experience the joy of giving to a community of lifelong learners who will appreciate you as a teacher and value you as a new member of their community. We need instructors willing to teach in the Kansas City area, Olathe, Overland Park and Topeka, as well as in Lawrence. If you are interested in teaching an Osher class, please e-mail me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you and best wishes,
David Wilson
