After leaving KUCE our tour begins at the Visitor Information Center in the Santa Fe Railroad Depot at Atchison. A guide will provide a narrative about Victorian-era architecture and the thriving commercial and historical importance of Atchison in the 19th Century. At Parker House, we’ll eat a home-cooked meal at this unique home furnishings store and cafe. After lunch, we’ll take a guided tour of St. Benedict’s Abbey Church, noted for its architecture, frescoes and stained glass. Designed by architect Barry Byrne, student of Frank Lloyd Wright, the limestone church was finished in 1958 to replace the first abbey church. We will be treated to a short organ recital on the 44-rank Moeller organ before leaving the abbey. To register for the Atchinson tour or other special events, click here.

![]() Osher Institute members were treated to some of the best jazz, blues and barbecue on May 8. The trip was hosted by two Osher faculty jazz and blues experts, Todd Wilkinson and Marvin Hunt. They provided running commentary on music as we journeyed from location to location. Fifty-one people from Lawrence and Overland Park enjoyed blues and barbecue at BB’s Lawnside BarB-Q, visited the Blue Room at the American Jazz Museum at 18th and Vine, and listened to the Doug Talley and Joe Parisi Quintet and our tour guide, Todd Wilkinson. Here's a quick slide show of the trip:
