The Friends of Osher is a special group of people and community-minded leaders who financially support the KU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. They recognize that the accessible, low-cost educational opportunities offered by Osher enrich the lives of adult learners, so they want to help us expand both our programming and the geographical areas we serve.
These are exciting times for KU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. We are growing rapidly, offering more courses in more places. Our instructors love what they do and so do their students. In addition to a dozen sites in the Lawrence, Topeka, and greater Kansas City areas, our developing network with Kansas community colleges is allowing us to offer courses statewide, both on-site and through state-of-the-art video conferencing
But we need your help. Less than 20 percent of program costs are covered by membership fees. Several small grants plus an endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation provide supplemental funding, but interest earnings from endowments have shrunk during this economic downturn. Since many of our students are on fixed incomes, we believe it is essential to keep membership fees low and offer scholarships to those who could not otherwise afford to attend. Therefore, gifts from generous supporters such as you are a vital source of funding for Osher programs
You can make a difference. Your tax-deductible gift will help us offer more classes and continue to recruit quality faculty, expand our classes to more locations, keep membership fees affordable, and provide scholarships.
This spring we launched an expanded Friends of Osher program. The new program offers a variety of opportunities for both individuals and corporations to show their support for KU Osher and receive recognition for their generosity.
