Archaeology & the Old Testament

Until the middle of the 19th century, much of our knowledge about the history of the Israelites in Palestine came from the Old Testament and was directed toward the Israelites’ relationship with their God. Archaeological investigations have uncovered many facts concerning the secular history of the Middle East and support some of the Biblical accounts. We will examine these archaeological studies relative to who the Israelites were, when they came to Palestine, their relationship with empires in that part of the world, and how their religion evolved into the monotheism of Judaism.
