Stunning film footage along with eyewitness accounts will document the Dust Bowl of the 1930s that devastated areas of Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. The course will examine economic and land use mistakes that created the greatest man-made ecological disaster in our history. We’ll also discuss the FDR government’s actions to reclaim the land and restore the livelihood of the people of the Dust Bowl. We’ll focus on lessons learned and ask the hard question: Is another Dust Bowl possible?

Elizabeth Black, author of Buffalo Spirits , which won the 2003 Three Oaks Prize in Fiction, grew up in western Kansas. Her parents survived the Dust Bowl, and as a child, she experienced severe mid-1950s dust storms.
