For more than a thousand years, Arthur has been of interest to poets, priests, princes and paupers. For a legendary figure, Arthur has surprisingly captured the attention of scholars from literature, history, art, theater, film to archeology. This course examines Arthur across time and space. We will trace his development from the Dark Ages through the Late Middle Ages and examine his continual reemergence from the 19th century onward. Although literature will be our focus, we also will examine Arthur through the prisms of archeology, history and film.
