O'Keeffe to Pollock: The View from America

From the early 20th century on, American artists both embraced and rejected the modernist influences from Europe. The tale of this struggle will be the focus of this course and will cover American art from 1900 until the 1950s, when Abstract Expressionism triumphed as the first truly "American" art movement. Georgia O’Keeffe’s stunning flower and bone paintings pave the way. Jackson Pollock’s drips and splatters still beg the question, "Yes, but is it art?"

Date: Tuesdays, Sept. 8, 15 & 22
Times: 2–4 p.m.
Location: Aberdeen Village
17500 West 119th St.
Olathe, Kan.
